In April, I primarily focused on training in Adobe Photoshop. This skill proved especially useful as I worked on the layout for this semester’s edition of The Sequence.
One of the most valuable features of Photoshop was the ability to remove backgrounds and re-layer images. While I used InDesign for the overall magazine layout, Photoshop was essential for tasks like converting submitted artwork from RGB to CMYK color mode—a necessary step for print formatting. Beyond color conversion, I used Photoshop to design the magazine cover. I resized my original watercolor artwork and incorporated the title and edition note, which were originally painted on a separate sheet, then scanned and edited to remove the background. I enjoyed this approach because it allowed me to preserve the integrity of the original artwork while integrating text in a way that felt cohesive and intentional. It was an effective method for combining different elements while respecting the visual character of each piece.
Below, I’ve embedded the online proof of the magazine.
