I am a researcher, artist, and writer with a passion for telling meaningful and compelling stories. While Sociology, Art, and English are distinct disciplines, the skills I’ve gained in each have shaped my ability to view the world through a critical lens and create work that is both human and humanizing.
As a researcher of Sociology, I focus on the intersections of race, media, and families, with a particular interest in the impact of neoliberalism and social media on hope and multiraciality. Over the past two years, I’ve been researching the commodification of multiracial children through a qualitative content analysis of three multimillion-dollar TikTok family influencers. My work seeks to unpack the complex relationships between race, hope, and commodification.
As an artist, I use a variety of mediums to tell stories in innovative ways. I began creating comics in 2021 during my first year at Grinnell College, capturing small moments of my shift at the Burling Library help desk, where I worked as a Technical Research Assistant. Encouraged by the Media Head of Sequence, I started submitting my work to the Sequence magazine, eventually becoming an artist for the publication and later serving as its Media Head. This journey has taught me the power of perseverance, creativity, and staying true to my unique vision.
As a writer, I serve as the Arts Editor for Scarlet and Black, the student newspaper at Grinnell College, where I pitch stories, manage a team of writers, and occasionally contribute pieces myself. Beyond news, I have a deep passion for poetry and the written word.
